Why patches show through paint

A repair that looks fine primed can flash badly once the finish coat is on and the light rakes across it. Three things cause that: the mud was not feathered wide enough, the texture does not match the surrounding wall, or the patch was not primed so it absorbs paint differently than the wall around it.

We feather wide, match the existing texture, and prime every repair before finish. Because we do both the drywall and the paint, there is no seam in responsibility — if the patch shows, it is ours to fix.

Water damage and Mississippi humidity

After a roof or plumbing leak, the drywall has to be dry before it is closed up, or you seal moisture into the assembly and grow mildew behind a brand-new ceiling. We cut back to sound material, confirm the substrate is dry, and use a stain-blocking primer over water staining so the tannin does not bleed back through the finish coat months later.

Answers

Drywall — common questions

Can you repair a hole in drywall and match the texture?

Yes. We cut back to sound material, patch, feather the compound wide, and match the existing texture — orange peel, knockdown, or smooth — then prime the repair so it does not flash under the finish coat.

Do you paint after the drywall repair?

Yes. Doing both is the point. When one contractor handles the patch and the paint, there is no argument about whose fault a visible repair is.

Can you remove popcorn ceilings?

Yes. We scrape, refinish to a smooth or lightly textured ceiling, prime, and paint. Note that ceilings in older buildings may need testing before removal, and we will tell you if that applies.

How long does drywall repair take?

Small patches are usually one day plus dry time. Larger repairs need two or three visits because joint compound must dry fully between coats — rushing it is what causes cracks later.
